Craft Lead /Follow …….Assigning employees of mixed crafts to a maintenance crew (e.g. , Millwright,
and Motor Inspectors) and having the crafts work together regardless of the nature of the maintenance
work. The craft with the expertise in a problem encountered would "lead and the craft(s) would
"follow".
Equipment Tender…….Assigning a craftsman to a production unit to perform both operating and
maintenance functions.
Operator Maintenance….Production and service employees performing minor maintenance work on their
equipment and assisting maintenance employees when they are performing repairs on the equipment.
Incidental Work…..Production, service and maintenance employees performing an incidental amount of
duties of another job.
Operator Inspection….. Production employees inspecting the quality of the products produced on their
units.
Incidental Mobile Equipment Operation…..Production service and maintenance employees operating
mobile equipment as an incidental part of the performance of their work.
Combined Production and Service Jobs….Combining traditional narrowly defined production and / or
service jobs to create more flexible, broader based jobs.
Continuous Operation….Uninterrupted maintenance, production and service operations which requires
work to commence at the job site at the start of the turn, to continue with no interruptions for formal
lunch breaks and to conclude at the job site at the end of the turn.
Floating Crews…..Assigning mobile maintenance crews and multi-purpose production and service crews
to various operations as determined by workload requirements.
Flexible Staffing…. Scheduling and assigning only the actual number of employees necessary to meet the
requirements of a turn's operations, and not filling positions when employees report off.
Consolidated Seniority Units….Consolidating seniority units, realigning jobs within seniority units and
authorizing temporary assignments from one seniority to another or across other jurisdictional
boundaries.
Crew Chief…..An hourly production, service or maintenance leader job with enhanced leadership skill
requirements
Modern Work Practices are implemented by restructuring work and/or implementing new technology.
